This volume presents key findings from the 20th International Rock Art Congress, devoted to the rock art of the Eastern Sahara, with a particular emphasis on Egypt and Sudan. The contributions encompass both broad regional syntheses and detailed case studies, addressing the relationships between rock art, landscape, style, and symbolism, with contributions focused on the Western Desert and Nubian rock art. These papers provide new insights into the ancient societies of the Eastern Sahara. The volume is dedicated to the memory of Dirk Huyge (1957–2018).
